Property Description

Come and see this unique mid-century modern beauty and own a piece of history. Architect Martin P. Fishback, Jr. designed the home with many of the same elements he did when he later designed the Rothman Residence in 1960 that received it's designation as a local historic landmark in 2012. This home site was originally chosen for the oversized lot and the large trees that were to be saved. The home was built in multiple stages around the trees. The wood home was to be designed to take into account the setting, open natural ventilation, and the plan for future expansion. Steel I-Beams were used to bridge the tree roots and a 24ft long beam in the living room. The "St. Joe" bricks were purchased by the original owners from the city as they were repaving the streets. Nevamar kitchen cabinets were the first used in St. Petersburg. Some of the original kitchen appliances include the "drop-down" stoves and the original oven. The cypress flitches were sourced at a small mill near Land O Lakes. The imported tile floors and the large ceiling beams in the "Mexican Room" were part of the Knight & Wall building supply store that was established in 1884 and operated for 80 years. Considered one of the oldest and earliest businesses in Tampa. The large arch in the room was designed to marry the original home with the addition built by Paul Hurst the original owner's brother.
